For Your Information (FYI)
Book Policy:
Textbooks are furnished to your child by the school system on a loan basis and should be treated as borrowed property. Students must pay for the loss or abuse of textbooks.
Educational Field Trips:
Properly supervised and planned educational field trips are an important part of the instructional program. A signed permission form is required from a parent or guardian for all field trips. Students who wish to go on school-sponsored trips must be aware that on such trips, they are under the supervision of any teacher or chaperone who attends. The school expects students to be representatives of the school and will consider the student’s previous conduct before granting permission. Students will be subjected to faculty discipline for any misconduct and disrespect shown to authority while away. Parents may be asked to volunteer as chaperones on school-related field trips.
Fire Drills:
Fire drills are held once a month during the school year. Students are expected to obey pertinent rules of safety.
Sexual Harassment Policy:
Any inappropriate touching, gestures or statements from any student on the school premises will not be permitted. Even if consent were to be given by the other party involved, such behavior will result in an immediate suspension.
Transportation:
1. The BethelSchool does not provide private transportation.
2. The school will provide a list of licensed and public transportation providers available.
3. The school will not be responsible for transporting students to and from school.
4. Based upon a contract with the Bureau of Pupil Transportation, and the New York Transit Authority, the following is available to our students:
One free monthly bus pass to be determined by the Bureau of Pupil Transportation.
Inclement Weather:
When severe weather creates hazardous conditions, the regular school schedule may be suspended to ensure students’ safety. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to monitor news reports via television and radio stations. The following station will announce school closures: WOR 710 AM. As a general rule, BethelSchool will be closed when the New York Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions.
School Communication:
It is imperative that the school office be notified immediately of a change of address, home or office telephone number, or emergency information during the academic school year. Parents and guardians will be sent written and verbal communication by the students. Please encourage your child/ren to bring these communications home for your information and prompt attention. Parents should check book bags daily of the younger students for letters and notices from school.
Telephone Privilege:
Students may make calls only when necessary. They must receive permission from the teacher and school’s office before using the phone. Parents must provide the adequate funds for students to make calls. The use of cell phones during class time is strongly prohibited. Students who violate that rule will have their phones confiscated. In addition, they will also face disciplinary actions which will be determined by the disciplinary committee.
Visitors:
Visitors must report to the school’s office and secure a visitor’s pass when he/she desires to visit with someone in the school.
Parents/guardians may visit the school and classroom by making a previous appointment. Conferences with the teachers must be before classes begin or after school is dismissed. When a special conference is needed call the teacher and arrange for a convenient time.
STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REGULATIONS CONTAINED IN THE SCHOOL BULLETIN AND FOR ALL WRITTEN AND PUBLICLY ANNOUNCED REGULATIONS MADE SUBSEQUENTLY.
